Plate Spinning is believed to have originated in China and was one of the ‘One Hundred Entertainments’ performed for the Great Emperors. Professional performers use real porcelain plates in their acts – if these fall, they break! Plate spinning relies on the same gyroscopic effect that a spinning top does to stay upright when spinning.
